Question: Would you play college fantasy football?

Here's a question that a few friends and I have been pondering this year -- how come NFL fantasy football is so damn popular, but college fantasy football has never seemed to take off?

I mean, there's a handful of sites out there that offer the service, but it's nowhere near as popular as NFL Fantasy. (In fact, at the beginning of the season, we thought college fantasy didn't exist -- but we've since found a few sites.)

Is it just too hard to know enough about 119 rosters (versus 32 NFL rosters)? Or is it that big offensive stats don't necessarily mean big wins (see Texas Tech, Nevada, Hawaii)?

Would you play college fantasy football if you could pick teams rather than players? In other words, draft a roster of eight to ten D-1 schools - and then score points based on their wins (perhaps adjusted for strength of win)... would that be cool? Would you play then?

Just wondering...

My friends and I have a college fantasy football league, and it's my favorite league. It's great to research schools and recruits around the country and get some cred for finding these young phenoms. This year, I picked Dennis Dixon as the last quarterback pick, and he was great (until he got hurt, of course).

I would play fantasy college football, but it should be organized by conference. That way you could play more than one conference/league per week. This would allow for 8-10 man leagues. Build the site and they will come!

As someone who has played college fantasy football and runs a college fantasy website for about six seasons now, I can say I certainly enjoy it more than NFL fantasy. Although there are more players - it just means more options for owners and you can always find that hidden gem - like UL Monroe's Calvin Dawson, Tulsa's Paul Smith or someone that may not be quite as well known on a national radar, which helps you win your league each year.
