Arkansas Democrat-Gazette conducts national Trophy poll

The statewide paper in Arkansas polled a cross-section of sportswriters -- including voters and non-voters -- and determined it's going to be "one of the closest in history."

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow held a slender 220-206 lead over Arkansas tailback Darren McFadden in a sampling of 104 responses compiled over two days by the Democrat-Gazette....

The Democrat-Gazette’s straw poll was broken down into five sections of the country, plus a sixth group consisting of national college football writers.

Tebow, a sophomore, won the poll by a narrow margin over McFadden in the Midwest and the Northeast, by a handier margin over McFadden in the West and by a huge margin over Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel and McFadden in the poll of national writers.

McFadden, a junior, led the voting in the Southeast, which had 34 respondents, twice as many as any of the other regions. McFadden also topped the polling in the Southwest, where Daniel was second ahead of Tebow.

One of the stipulations of the voting was that the information was based on games through last Saturday, meaning Daniel’s performance in the Big 12 Championship Game on Saturday wasn’t a factor....

One component that isn’t reflected in the Democrat-Gazette poll that could favor McFadden is the opinions of former Heisman winners and retired college football lifers who might be more reluctant to vote for a sophomore like Tebow.

Closest in history? I doubt it. Tebow is a 1-9 fav to win the heisman.

Done I'm sure by an impartial Arkansas NP, NOT!!!! I'm so tired of newspapers that create news, rather than just writing about the news.
