2007 Voter Tips

Use this space to post tips about official Stiff Arm Trophy voters that have declared their votes. If possible, give us a link to a web page where it's printed -- or at least tell us where on the air you heard it.

We can't do this without you. Thanks!

Oh, and do you want to slam other schools or players? Do your trash-talking here.

Heard 2 voters declare their votes this morning on AM sports radio. This happened 11/13/07 0720am on jacksonville,FL AM930 sports radio. Joe Cowart(jax radio host AM930) and Mike Bianchi (Orlando Sentinal writer)both said they would vote for Tim Tebow, barring a meltdown in the last 2 games. Hope this helps

Better add Sam Bradford to this list. 3 big games coming up and he is going to be a NY invitee ...just watch and learn.

Thanks, Fletchdog. However, let's keep this thread for voter tips - not promoting particular candidates. Do that on the trash talk thread - http://www.stiffarmtrophy.com/2007/11/2007-trash-talk.html

Jason White says right now he would vote 1. Tim Tebow 2. Chase Daniel He did metion there is "a lot of football to be played". I get the feeling that if Missouri beats KU and wins the Big XII Champ he will vote Chase number one.

Love your site, and have been visiting for the past couple of years. This is not my first time to email you guys.

This past weekend (11-17-07 Sat.) Doug Flutie said that he thought Tim Tebow should win the Heisman and that he would get his vote. However, he has also stated (earlier in the season) that Matt Ryan of Boston College would get his vote (which makes sense, as they are both from BC).

The rest of the ABC crew didn't disagree with him and acted as if they would cast the same ballot. (That is John Saunders and Craig James).

Finally, on ESPN's College Gameday Final and on Sundays (11-18) College Football Live, just about everyone on the set said that Tim Tebow was the Front Runner for the Heisman (Mark May, Lou Holtz, Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit). I don't know if this is "solid" enough info yet....but they all seemed pretty convinced. I would say that if nothing else happens to upset the balance, they will all be putting Tim Tebow down as #1 or at least #2.

The only one that "waivered" was Kirk Herbstreit. He said that IF Darren McFadden had a huge game vs. LSU next weekend, then some might change their ballot to Darren McFadden. I am assuming he meant himself.

For what ever that is worth...

You have Gary Danielson listed "ABC Sports" in the voters list. He now works for CBS Sports as an analyst with Vern Lundquist doing SEC games.

Note: Gary is working the Ark-LSU game. Heisman hopeful McFadden has fumbled the ball 3 times, losing one so far in the 1st half.

Dan Hicken, sportscaster for the First Coast News- Jacksonville, FL was asked on air if he had received his ballot to vote for Tim Tebow for the Heisman since Tim is a Jacksonville native. Dan confirmed the ballots had just gone out and he had actually received his the day before.

It was at the end of the six o'clock news.

Hope that helps- I did not see his name on your list.

Danny Wuerffel stated in regards to Tim Tebow that

"It's not official yet because there is a student here at Desire Streets who is my info guy and we haven't talked yet," Wuerffel said. "But I can't imagine anybody else being at the top of my ballot."

Olin Buchanan of rivals.com a voter stated

"Florida quarterback Tim Tebow will win the Heisman Trophy."

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=3128299&sportCat=ncf

Gene Wojciechowski

But he's not my first pick on my Heisman ballot. Tebow is.

Tebow has seven more rushing touchdowns than McFadden (22-15) on 110 fewer carries. And anybody who watches Tebow on a regular basis knows those TDs weren't simply QB sneaks. Ten of those 22 touchdowns were 5 yards or longer. And by the way, Tebow is the Gators' leading rusher, which means he took a pounding in the same killer SEC as McFadden. Against Florida State in the regular-season finale, he played part of the second half with a broken right hand.

Tebow has four fewer TD passes (29) than Hawaii's Brennan and Mizzou's Daniel (33), but he also has 178 fewer pass attempts than Daniel and 105 fewer than Brennan. And for those who think Tebow somehow doesn't deserve the trophy because Florida isn't a national title contender, remember this: The Gators lost five starters on offense (including their leading running back and wide receiver) and nine on defense from 2006, and since the BCS began in the 1998 season, no team has won back-to-back BCS championships.

The rest of my ballot? McFadden will occupy the No. 2 spot, with Daniel, Brennan, Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon or West Virginia quarterback Pat White as my likely No. 3.

Posted by: Wes | Nov 26, 2007 4:19:06 PM

www.he15man.net should clear up any confusion for anyone unsure of who is deserving of the 2007 heisman trophy. The facts don't lie. Sophmore or not, noone has put up more impressive numbers than Tebow against stronger competition.

Posted by: Jeremy Ecklof | Nov 27, 2007 5:18:29 AM

From Pete Fiutak, CollegeFootballNews.com...

My Heisman ballot this week will be … I'm holding the ballot in my hand. "I hearby designate Tim Tebow, Florida, As my First Choice to receive the Heisman Memorial Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding college football player in the United State for 2007. To the best of my knowledge, he conforms to the rules governing this vote."

My Second Choice is: Chase Daniel, Missouri
My Third Choice is: Pat White, West Virginia

If White or Daniel lose this weekend, I'll put Darren McFadden in the slot.

I found a voter that you don't have on your list yet - Whit Watson of SunSports. He's going to be a South regional voter, and this year is his first year voting: http://whitwatson.sunsportstv.com/

He has not revealed his top 3 yet.

Posted by: David Wunderlich | Nov 27, 2007 7:48:46 AM

What's your source? Yesterday he said

"He's (Tebow) still the leader, but the margin is now razor-thin."

also, it's spelled hereby

Posted by: Richard T | Nov 27, 2007 7:52:09 AM

From Phil Taylor at SI.com, in an article debating either Tebow or McFadden for the trophy:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/ncaa/11/27/heisman1203/index.html

Last paragraph of the article says Tebow is his #1:

"But the issue isn't whether the voters' eyes are open, it's which vision they prefer -- a one-of-a-kind quarterback who played at a consistently high level from the beginning of the season to the end, or a brilliant tailback who provided two of the season's greatest individual performances. With all due respect to McFadden, there is at least one ballot that will have the kid quarterback's name at the top."

Posted by: Daniel | Nov 27, 2007 7:59:17 AM

Get this website out to as many voters as possible so they can see the true facts and reason why Tim Tebow should be the only one considered for the The Heisman Trophy this year.

Larry Vettel of FightinGators.com and SunSports/FSN Florida is also a voter who is not on your list, and he is a longtime print and TV journalist in Florida.

On a local Gainesville radio show (Heath Cline Show, see thestar.fm) he said that Tebow is his #1 and Chase Daniel is his #2, and "there is almost nothing that can happen this weekend to change that." You can go ahead and tally him down for Tebow 1 and Daniel 2.

Hey everyone - thanks for the tips. Some notes...

* I'm only seeing a #1 vote from Pete Fiutak.

* Phil Taylor at SI doesn't say he's a voter. I've sent him an email.

* Olin Buchanan didn't say that was his ballot in the column. He lists five picks, which seems to indicate that he's handicapping the race, not declaring his vote. Have a link to the video?

* Pat Forde listed his top five for the ESPN "watch" poll - but that's not the same as his ballot. Next week, we'll consider these poll announcements definitive, but not yet.

Hey everybody, I really really appreciate the help. But please just post tips where someone actually says they have a ballot and how they're voting. Interim thoughts don't count... Thanks!!!

I don't have a name for you but I noticed you had Sam Kouvaris listed from Jacksonville twice. Unless he has a son or lucky enough to recieve two votes then I think this is a typo.

Go Tebow.

Got my copy of SI today and there is an article about the Heisman Trophy candidates.

It starts off by stating: "With all due respect to the quarterbacks at Missouri, Wes Virginia, and Hawaii, the Heisman Trophy race appears to be between Tim Tebow and Darren McFadden."

The end of the article reads: "With all due respect to McFadden, there is at least one ballot that will have the kid quarterback's name at the top."

The article was written by Phil Taylor, who is apparently a Heisman elector.

Neil McReady out of Mobile cast his ballot:

"For the record, I cast my Heisman Trophy ballot Tuesday. In the end, I went full circle. I started the year favoring Darren McFadden and flirted with several other players -- Oregon's Dennis Dixon, Boston College's Matt Ryan and Florida's Tim Tebow -- but on Tuesday, I voted for McFadden. His performance last weekend in Baton Rouge sealed the deal for me.

Tebow was second on my ballot followed by West Virginia quarterback and Daphne native Pat White."

Tim Cowlishaw: I have a Heisman vote this year so I have been thinking about it a lot. Right now I can't see voting for anyone over Tebow. He had an incredible year. Nearly beat LSU by himself. I am leaning toward going Tebow, then Daniel, then McFadden. Can change my mind until next week, but no matter how good Daniel is Saturday, and I like him a lot, I think Tebow is No. 1.

Arkansas' Darren McFadden's spectacular performance against LSU's great defense, moved him way up in the Heisman Trophy race, but not high enough to displace Florida's Tim Tebow, who has clearly been the best and most consistent player in college football this season . . .

"Darren McFadden is the best college football player in the country, and if he isn't, Tim Tebow is. Or that's how my ballot read, anyway."

Not sure if he's a voter, but Peter Schrager on FOX Sports has Tebow as his #1.

http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/7502212

"I spoke with Tebow on Monday. Good kid. Humble, smart, spiritual. He respects college football history and grew up a Danny Wuerfell fan. He's also aware of the TimTebowfacts.com site. His favorite fact? "Tim Tebow can believe it's not butter."

The kid's my Heisman Trophy pick this year. And that's regardless of what Chase Daniel does on Saturday."
