About that Berry Tramel thing

So, over at the Oklahoman's website, Berry Tramel is claiming that Stiff Arm Trophy "is a fraud" because he's listed as a voter here - even though he gave up his vote years ago.

Our bad.

As regular readers know here, we rely on published votes, direct email correspondence with voters, and tips of on-air declarations from our readers.

Why is Berry Tramel on our list? Because on December 8th, one of our readers ("Jordan") posted the following:

Barry Trammel of the Daily Oklahoman said today on WWLS the Sports Animal in OKC that he voted for Sam Bradford 1, Tebow 2, McCoy 3.

Well, it looks like that was a mistaken impression of what he said. Sorry, Berry.

In our next update, we'll be taking him out.

Do know this: reader tips of local broadcast declarations are a tiny part of our mix. I'm quite confident that our system is working just fine.

Berry loves to stir stuff up any chance he gets.

It is tough to know who is a voter and who is not, especially since they do not publish an official list. Living here in Oklahoma, I would have assumed he had a vote.

Keep up the good work

Tramel is the fraud, passing himself off to the citizens of Oklahoma as a sports journalist. Jordan was going off of what Tramel said on his radio show as he was panning himself off as a Heisman voter, just as he has panned himself off as a sports journalist. It's not stiffarm's or Jordan's fault Tramel has to stroke his own ego and thump his chest at your expense just to get ratings for his sorry radio show and weak newspaper that can't see that they've needed to make a change for years. Tramel could have sent you a cordial email letting know that he's not a voter and that would have been the end of it. But no, forget how many years in a row you've got your projection correct, Tramel wanted to use you as a means to collect his paycheck, stir up a little controversy, and get the spotlight shined on him for a couple of minutes. That's the kind of guy he is. Tramel is the fraud! StiffArmTrophy.com is one of the coolest websites on the web for college football fans so that fact alone shows what Tramel knows.

I've known Barry since 6th grade and he was full of *&$% even then. He is a nobody sports writer who lives by saying ridiculous BS. I could have swore myself that, that was what he said the other day. Trammel has always thought he was the smartest man in the room so forgive the moron.

Trammel = tool

Berry Trammel is widely known in Oklahoma to be a blowhard and a buffoon. He is the only person that I know of who thinks his opinion is important.

Posted by: Diane | Dec 11, 2008 3:18:27 PM

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about Barry. The system has worked the past six years for you, and that is a very small mistake.

"Will report sports for crack"

-Berry Tramel

An embarrassment to Oklahomans around the world.

Forget Tramel. It's not a perfect system. Results are what count and you get results. Keep it up!

Berry Tramel is a great sports writer. He may like to stir controversy, but isn't that what college football is all about? There are no playoffs and it has become very political. I would say those posting on here ripping Tramel are the true embarrassments to Oklahoma.

I may not always agree with his opinions, but anyone with half a brain can read his stuff and know he is good. Get off his back and go back to listening to the homers of the world (James Hale).

Barry Trammel is a joke of a reporter an embarrassment to the Daily Oklahoman.

Posted by: native oklahoman | Dec 11, 2008 3:57:42 PM

I listen to Tramel all the time on the radio. He is good at what he does and I enjoy his show and his writing. Frankly, do you guys just take for granted someone posts on here about a voter that they are a voter? I mean I see Tramels point, how many other wrong voters are on here?

Posted by: terry | Dec 11, 2008 4:58:15 PM

Trammel actually has something against any opinion posted on the internet which isn't his. Past articles of Trammels have found him railing on the blogosphere and other ephemeral internet bogeymen. Write him off. Y'all are doing a bangup job.

Posted by: Kevin | Dec 11, 2008 5:13:59 PM

If you actually watch the video, Berry doesn't say StiffArmTrophy is a fraud, only lists that show him as a voter. You have to admit that his refusal to vote in any of the polls or even for all-conference teams (decided it's more appropriate to cover the news instead of make the news) is pretty unique in this day and age.

Barry Trammel is a crackpot laughing stock who works for the worst newspaper in America. Nuff' Said.

Posted by: Aldebaran | Dec 11, 2008 5:40:17 PM

Berry is threatened by information and news sites on the Internet, he's railed against them in the past. He works for the worst Newspaper in the country, but I would not be at all surprised if he said "I'd vote for" on the radio, and seeing as he works for an AP newspaper, one could easily assume he is a voter, because I'm sure he did not preface it by saying he isn't a voter. That would make people tune out an not care what some sad sack on the radio thinks. You'd think a reporter would do a little research before he opens his yap, and know that besides a small error here and there, this website HAS correctly predicted the outcome since it's inception. Screw Berry, he need to iron his face.

Yeah i remember him giving his though he didnt say he was voting..he was talking to Al Eschbach on WWLS about who Al was gonna vote for and AL said..."I already sent in my ballot." I think who ever posted that tramel said that got their wires crossed about what the conversation was about.

Posted by: will.smith4 | Dec 11, 2008 5:53:44 PM

Don't worry guys. Berry does these things for the SHOCK value. That's how he's made his living. He said UT should go over OU in the local newspaper. He's a troll and he does this to p*$$ people off. Just blow him off like most of the locals do. Heck the Norman Transcript is better then his company's paper.

Barry Trammel hates the internet message boards AND the baby Jesus.

Posted by: Chklette | Dec 11, 2008 8:07:13 PM

Berry Trammel is a great sports writer. Maybe StiffArm should check their sources once in a while.

Posted by: Jack | Dec 11, 2008 8:12:35 PM

Barry Tramel isn't qualified to work at a Taco Bell! (Ring any bells Sooner fans?)

Posted by: D-Rex46 | Dec 11, 2008 8:30:47 PM

1. Trammel is a reasonably good sports writer. He was doing his job, stiring up the pot to get readers/viewers for his employer. H ***.com (sorry) StiffArm.dom reported an unreliable source. Trammel as a reporter views that with disdain, so he commented as aforsaid. The people who went off on Trammel for him doing his job, just prove his point that most posters on message boards are morons.

Why does he dress like a hobo?

Posted by: Ted DiBiase Senior | Dec 11, 2008 8:44:38 PM

Ignore Trammel. He's just trying to gain face time. Look, because of this website, now people know him more. He's envious of this website. You're doing a great job.

Posted by: Tam | Dec 11, 2008 9:29:57 PM

Overall Berry does a good job but I swear he says things just to be different...This site is obviously doing a good job and if he paid any attention to it he'd know it's based "some" one reports from your Average Joe's who aren't always correct or honest while the biggest part of this site is reported directly from the voters...I'd ignore him and move on.

Posted by: Joel | Dec 11, 2008 9:37:58 PM

He works at the worst paper in the state.....he is pretty much unknown outside of OKC. He is pretty much and "anti-homer"....one who takes the contrary position just to stir up trouble and/or get attention as otherwise he goes without notice. The Tulsa paper puts his little rag to shame, and is considered an embarrasment. He is the only one that thinks his opinion matters......I couldn't tell you his opinion on most things as I, like most people here, simply ignore him....and I will continue to do so. Guess he was picked on as a kid and now thinks he has a pulpit.

You better believe it. In fact, that was the year I became aware of Trammel enough to even know of his existence, and it wasn't for flattering reasons. The man would hyperventilate if he pulled his head out of his ass long enough to take a few breaths.

Posted by: Mark in VA | Dec 12, 2008 9:37:00 AM

Barry must be doing a pretty good job at what he does or there would not be so many no life loosers who have nothing better to do than sit on their ass all day and post BS on the net inspired to post yet more BS about him. GET A LIFE!!!!!!

Maybe there is another Barry Trammel who isn't a tool

Posted by: sooner356 | Dec 12, 2008 11:04:10 AM

It doesn't take someone with a keen sence of a person's character to determine that this guy is a first class jerk. Why anybody defends garbage like Tremmel...is beyond me...

Posted by: whatta_jerk | Dec 12, 2008 12:09:10 PM

I agree that Tramel overreacted. Given that he once was a Trophy voter and this site got some misinformation, calling the site a "fraud, was, indeed over the top. Based on my having read Tramel ever since he started with The Oklahoman, though, he has shown good judgment more often than not, especially compared to some of his fellow sportswriters. Still, given that Stiffarm has picked the winner every single year of its existence, it's clear that Tramel was premature, at least.

Posted by: gwsat | Dec 12, 2008 12:31:20 PM

I' say this once. Stiffarm.com is the wrong party in this. They don't verify their sources. They might get it right but how many time do you think the web site may have influenced some nit-wit(aka most you posters) in some way.

Berry never said he cast a Heisman vote, Berry said he would vote for ...
let me see how you do your jobs and I am sure that I can badmouth you as well.

Posted by: scarab | Dec 12, 2008 6:14:51 PM

Berry is a great sportswriter. He is part of the highest rated sports show in the nation per capita and does a great job. He's old school like many other sportswriters across the nation.I'm sure most of the assholes on here wish they were as respected and revered as berry. Enough so to have a Heisman vote but to give it up for a better cause. Kudos Tramel.

I'm not from Oklahoma. I have never read Berry Trammell. I don't have a dog in this fight. But this is very whinney. Why not just email the site and report the error? There is no need to make a big deal. Trammell seems to be a whinney jerk.
